The Petition They Should Have Written Themselves Danny I.P. – No Retreat. No Surrender. May 18, 2025 ———
Let’s cut the niceties.
If you want to lead a country, you should be able to protect it.
And yet in Canada today, you can run for the highest office in the land without passing a single security screening. No clearance. No vetting. No accountability. Just ambition, slogans, and a smile wide enough to hide anything.
That’s not leadership. That’s a liability.
And tomorrow, that ends.
———
On May 19, I’m launching a petition to fix the failure at the core of our democracy:
If you want political power in this country, you must pass a national security clearance. Full stop.
Because right now, Canadians are expected to clear security checks to:
• Enter a federal job
• Access a CSIS briefing room
• Handle classified files
• Join the military
• Or work the front desk at a passport office
I needed a criminal record check just to volunteer with the Cancer Society.
But politicians asking to run the country?
Nothing. Not even a question.
That’s not just outrageous.
It’s dangerous.
———
Here’s how the petition works:
• I need five Canadian citizens to sponsor it
• It goes to my MP for formal review
• Then on to the Clerk of Petitions
• Once approved, it’s posted on Parliament’s site and open for 30 days of signatures
The language is already House-approved — I wrote it months ago. But I had to wait for Parliament to return. Now, with the window wide open, we strike.
Last time it took three weeks to clear the Clerk. I’m hopeful for the same this time.
———
Let me say it plainly:
If you’re hiding something,
If you’ve got skeletons in your briefcase,
If foreign money, influence, or kompromat have touched your campaign —
you should not be anywhere near power.
This petition is not a warning shot.
It’s a demand.
To every MP, every candidate, every would-be Prime Minister:
If you can’t get the clearance, you don’t get the job.
Period.
———
And here’s the final word — loud and clear:
You want to lead this country?
Then you’ll meet our requirements, not rewrite your own.
Because this is a job, and we’re the employers.
And we’re done hiring on handshakes, slogans, and suits.
Minimum Requirements for Political Power in Canada:
• National Security Clearance
• Criminal Background Check
• Full Transparency on Foreign Contacts
• Ethics Training
• Oath to Uphold Charter, Treaties, and Truth
If you can’t pass the test, you don’t get the keys.
The old job description was written by insiders.
The new one is written by the people.
———
This is the line. And we are the ones drawing it.
Tomorrow, we relight the fire under a Parliament that forgot who it serves.
We choose Canada.
And we choose to defend it — from the inside out.

Once posted and open, please link to the petition site on Substack to make it as easy as possible for people to sign it.
I can't wait to sign it. I never understood how someone without clearance can be in parliament. Makes no sense to me. They all should have it, when they represent the people. Thank you for doing the work!!!
